*** Portrait of an Unknown Lady - French School 1583 - An exceptionally rare portrait of a young lady, probably attendant at the Court of Henry III of France, an evidently from a wealthy family. The flowers and little leaves carefully knitted into her hair would indicate her virginity but as yet the meaning of the golden sphere in the top left hand corner is uncertain. Reproduced by Rafael Valls Ltd.
*** Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester - Nicholas Hilliard 1576 -  One of the three miniature portraits by the same artist of Queen Elizabeth's favorite courtier. A most lavish patron of the arts, he may well commissioned the artist himself in order to present the miniature as a gift or to keep as a family heirloom.
